Just 10 days after Twitch made an announcement that they would be dropping mask, vaccination, and negative test requirements for the the coming TwitchCon event in October, the streaming giant has rolled back their decision this morning.
Twitch’s latest decision will require “masks in all indoor spaces at TwitchCon” as well as “all attendees to provide proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of attending the show” according to their latest post.
This development is a huge victory for creators and fans who felt that Twitch’s sudden dropping of health and safety protocols was the wrong decision. Many people who had originally planned on attending TwitchCon in San Diego this Fall began to second guess their plans as a result. A specific group that felt ignored by Twitch’s decision were many immunocompromised creators and fans. While there is no perfect defense to the still ever-present COVID-19 as well as monkeypox, which has recently been surging all across the US, the return of TwitchCons health and safety protocols will be a huge deterrent to rampant infection at the event. And now, many of of the folks who felt left behind by Twitch’s original decision 10 days ago will feel much more comfortable attending TwitchCon this October.
